Dannie of Cedar Cliffs
by Christmas Carol Kauffman, illus. by Esther Rose Buckwalter, copyright 1950, 261 pages.
Genre: Christian Fiction
RL: 5th - adult
Daniel Roth Martin, named for his Grandpap Roth, grew up in a God-fearing Mennonite family. From the very beginning Grandpap took a special interest in his namesake, he often took Dannie along with him on his preaching trips. It was on those trips that Dannie learned about God's love and grace. As he grew older, Dannie became aware of his own need for God and he accepted the Lord as his Savior. From that day forward his life was changed; he would experience many joys and trials but through them he learned to trust heavily in God.
This biographical story begins in the midst of the civil war before Dannie, the main character, is born. As you read about the life of Dannie Martin, you will laugh, cry and be inspired by a life lived for God. I really enjoyed reading a story about a real person who lived their life wholly for the Lord. Dannie of Cedar Cliffs is one that the whole family will enjoy, I know mine did!
